Summary

Claude Code just dropped a major update that lets you control it directly through Telegram or Discord, and it is a direct move against OpenClaw. If you have been using OpenClaw because of its chat-based agent setup, this new feature brings that same remote control experience to Claude Code via a simple MCP plugin integration. Here is how it works: you run Claude Code on your machine (ideally inside tmux to keep it running 24/7), install the MCP Telegram or Discord plugin, pair it with your account in three steps, and you can now send messages directly to your Claude Code session from your phone or anywhere. No need to sit at your computer. You kick off a long coding job, walk away, and check in via Telegram when it is done. The channel already uses Claude Code for developer-heavy work, like building the BoxminingAI website with a Windows 95 aesthetic. Claude Code is preferred for coding tasks because it understands codebases better, handles refactoring well, and supports powerful plugins like Playwright for web browsing and screenshots. Now that you can talk to it over Telegram, there is even less reason to route coding tasks through a middleman like OpenClaw. That said, Claude Code and OpenClaw are not identical replacements for each other yet. OpenClaw has a more refined memory system and is built to function as a general-purpose assistant for daily tasks, reminders, and non-technical jobs. Claude Code remains developer-focused. If you want to build something, Claude Code is your tool. If you want an always-on personal assistant managing your life, OpenClaw still wins there. The plugin is very new and has known setup issues, so expect some rough edges. Only Telegram and Discord are supported right now, but the Claude team has signaled that iMessage, WhatsApp, and other platforms are coming. This is clearly the first move in a broader push to make Claude Code a full competitor in the agent communication space.
