Summary

OpenClaw 4.1 is a critical patch release that fixes major issues introduced in version 3.31. If you upgraded to 3.31 and experienced problems, this update addresses three production-breaking bugs that affected most users. The gateway startup hang caused your system to appear healthy but stop responding after a minute—this was due to database maintenance blocking the main event loop, now moved off the main thread. The config restart loop made OpenClaw generate new security tokens on every startup, triggering endless restarts. Most frustratingly, the "allow always amnesia" bug meant your command approvals weren't persisting between sessions, forcing you to re-approve the same commands repeatedly. This affected 47+ trusted commands for some users and caused hard crashes on Windows. Beyond fixes, 4.1 adds six new features. The /tasks command lets you monitor background agents directly in chat—see what's running, queued, or done without leaving your conversation. SearXNG web search is now bundled as a first-class provider, giving you self-hosted search without third-party APIs or costs. GLM models are also added for agentic workflows. Memory and compaction bugs are resolved too—full re-indexes were skipping session transcripts, and QMD collections were colliding on restart. If you're still hitting approval walls after updating, check the two-config-file fix shared by community member Catherine. Production users running multiple agents on VPS reported the core approval loop is now fixed, though edge cases remain for wrapper paths and inline eval. This release shows OpenClaw's rapid response to community feedback, patching critical issues within 24 hours.
